Secret Flowers and Stiches

Hooray Abby and Brian are married! Congrats, guys! Keep your eye out for their awesomely indie wedding on the blog next week. I am super excited because now I can finally share this fantastic “final fitting” shoot that Abby invited me to be a part of. I’ve had an admiration for women gown designers and seamstresses since my godmother first showed me her stash of tulle, and made her sewing machine whir. I used to spend hours in my living room stitching and gluing mini dresses on my Barbie dolls, so being in Jill Andrews’ Atelier was basically heaven.  Jill started out designing costumes for Centerstage, now she and Sarah have this fantastic custom dress shop. When I first sat down with Brian and Abby, she described the concept of her custom gown- artfully pieced together from three or four different bride’s gowns that Jill had designed. Including all sorts of textures, Sari material, sheer and lace. Immediately I could not wait to see this finished gown, and it’s so magical. I think the spirits, and excitement that the other women held on their wedding day wrapped Abby up in good luck and happy thoughts for her big day. One of the final touches that Jill added on after this fitting were itsy-bitsy silk flowers that Abby called her “little secrets”.
