Megan + Stuart 08.07.10

By the end of each wedding, I feel a strong connection the couple who has invited me into their lives. We’ve spent the day together, in their most intimate, and celebratory moments. This wedding was particularly close to my heart, however, because Megan and I have known each other since we were literally in diapers. Born a month apart, play groups and many trips together to the town pool, the library, and birthday parties. I have distinct memories of pulling Megan’s long, beautiful hair just to hear her squeal :) Hey, we’re both only children – I guess I was trying out the whole sibling thing!

Jump forward to the present, and Megan is now married to Stuart, such a wonderful person. I learned so much about the beautiful woman Megan has become, and this great man who she’s chosen to spend the rest of her life with. We began the day at Megan’s childhood home, with her parents and her best girls all helping her getting ready. We made our way to the chapel, where Megan and Stuart met as Undergrads at Tufts University.

Megan and Stuart Tufts ChapelAfter the ceremony, we took photos around the Tufts campus, and then headed over to Henderson House in Weston to shoot some more.  Megan and Stuart were such willing subjects, and gave plenty of time for portraits,  I was so grateful! This is such an important part of the day that often gets looked over and thus pressed for time. Natural looking, creative portraits are a ton of fun, but they do take time. It’s one of the few times during the day when you can devote all of your attention your partner – why not savor it?

Megan and Stuart

The reception took place at Henderson House, in Weston, Massachusetts. This is the town where Megan and I both spent our K-12 years, so it was very deja-vu make our way through town, to the house.  Such a great venue, beautiful details around the grounds. Megan and Stuart are both horse enthusiasts, so each table was named after a horse that they’d ridden. I especially liked the table named Leap of Faith, as a metaphor for this big event. Stepping forward into the future with someone does require a little bit of blind faith, even when you know them through and through. The future’s unwritten, but you’ll experience it all with each other’s love and support. Congratulations! A special thanks to Jonathan for shooting this wedding with me.

Amelia + Vlad

Before Amelia and Vlad met, there was attraction in the anticipation. Now, after all that time together, the adoration, and attraction is still so present. They can make each other laugh at the drop of a hat, and then there are these sweet quiet moments between them. I’m really looking forward to their wedding this October. One of my favorite things about summer is the long, extended sunset. The golden light is heaven to shoot with.Lindsay MacDonald Long Island City

Summer in the City

I spent a wonderful afternoon with this couple in Long Island City on a steamy Sunday in July. I was in heaven playing with the golden light, and Amelia and Vlad were game for everything. Here’s a little sneak peek as we head into the weekend. Check back next week for the full post!

Carrie + Joe 07.03.10

This cute DC couple got married on the Fourth of July weekend at a farm in Maryland. Carrie and Joe have such a classic, American style, it was so fitting. I had a great time with Carrie and her two sisters at the hotel while they did her make-up, and calmly got their things together. Joe and the guys were on the floor directly below, getting lessons on how to tie a tie.

When they got to the farm, Carrie and Joe had a first look. The anticipation was building for Joe as he awaited his bride, putting on her final touches. When a couple decides to do a first look,  it might be one of my favorite moments of the day. I love the element of surprise, and was such a quiet, personal moment between the couple before they embark on the festivities of the day. The butterflies in the stomach, and the excitement is so tangible. It’s fun to see these excited photos alongside the ones of wedded bliss and ease, taken after the ceremony. It’s for this reason that I always make sure to shoot some portraits of the couple once they’re officially married, even if they do a first look.

The ceremony took place in the cool shadow of the silo on the farm, overlooking the lake. Carrie’s brother in law played trumpet, again, very fitting for this fourth of july celebration. After they were officially man and wife, I stole Carrie and Joe for a fun romp in the field, soaking up the amazing golden sunset. Natural light is incredibly inspiring to shoot with, and I feel like this exuberant sunset perfectly captured Carrie and Joe’s  joy at finally being married.

Everyone shook their groove thing at the reception that followed. I love seeing all generations celebrating together on the dance floor. Happiness in the form of moving your body to the music is something I have always loved from the age I could stand up, and wiggle around to Whitney Houston. This is why the reception, specifically the dancing is one of my favorite parts of the day, and so important to capture. It’s the physical culmination of all that nervous energy, and unbridled excitement from the whole day. Plus, who doesn’t love seeing their friends breaking out their baddest and best moves, saved up for such an occasion.

Golden Bliss

Heading to Boston tomorrow for a childhood friend’s wedding. I’m so excited for her, and I’m so honored she and her fiance chose to have me capturing their big day! Can’t wait to see all these familiar faces from my past all dolled up and gettin’ their groove on. I wanted to leave you with a little sneak peak of Carrie and Joe’s beautiful summer wedding. Check back for their wedding story on the blog next week! Have a great weekend.

Abby + Brian 06.19.10

On a steamy June Saturday, Abby and Brian excitedly prepared to be wed. I had been seriously looking forward to this wedding since our first meeting, and I really felt a connection with these two. I hoped I was cool enough to make the cut! You might remember Abby from the earlier post about her custom gown made by Jill Andrews. Abby and Brian’s style was really refreshing as they stayed true to their cultural, and ethical roots. Planning adequate time for photos (thank you!) we shot a bunch in Wyman Park and the BMA sculpture garden before heading over to the main event at Red Emma’s 2640 space. A really cool, unconventional place to have an event.

The ceremony was such a beautiful outpouring of love, and support for the couple. The party that followed was catered with delicious vegan food, awesome Irish music, and lots of spirited dancing!

Summer loving

Well, well! This week turned out to fly by! Full of travel up and down the East Coast, meeting new people and hearing about their exciting plans, post processing, shipping out orders to clients, and shooting new engagements. Off to Philly tomorrow for a lil mini-vacation with R! The heat of mid-July tends to slow down the wedding season, and I’m quite excited to explore.

Here’s a little sneak preview of Abby and Brian’s beautiful wedding. The full post will be up soon… you’ll just have to check back on the blog next week for more of their loveliness!

xoxo,

Secret Flowers and Stiches

Hooray Abby and Brian are married! Congrats, guys! Keep your eye out for their awesomely indie wedding on the blog next week. I am super excited because now I can finally share this fantastic “final fitting” shoot that Abby invited me to be a part of. I’ve had an admiration for women gown designers and seamstresses since my godmother first showed me her stash of tulle, and made her sewing machine whir. I used to spend hours in my living room stitching and gluing mini dresses on my Barbie dolls, so being in Jill Andrews’ Atelier was basically heaven.  Jill started out designing costumes for Centerstage, now she and Sarah have this fantastic custom dress shop. When I first sat down with Brian and Abby, she described the concept of her custom gown- artfully pieced together from three or four different bride’s gowns that Jill had designed. Including all sorts of textures, Sari material, sheer and lace. Immediately I could not wait to see this finished gown, and it’s so magical. I think the spirits, and excitement that the other women held on their wedding day wrapped Abby up in good luck and happy thoughts for her big day. One of the final touches that Jill added on after this fitting were itsy-bitsy silk flowers that Abby called her “little secrets”.
